Geoscience Educator of the Month (GEM)

The Geoscience Educator of the Month (GEM) is an outreach initiative of the Education Outreach Policy Subcommission (EOP) of the IUGS Commission on Geoscience Education (COGE). The campaign recognises outstanding educators who contribute to advancing geoscience education in schools, universities, communities, and outreach programmes at local level around the world. Through GEM, COGE highlights inspiring educators whose work strengthens geoscience literacy and promotes innovative teaching practices globally.

• Inspire educators and students worldwide

Educators from all regions of the world who contribute to geoscience education, including:

• School teachers
• University lecturers
• Outreach educators
• Community educators
• Education programme leaders

Nomination Process

Nominations are open year-round.

Anyone can nominate a colleague, mentor, or educator who has made a significant contribution to geoscience education.

Selection

Nominations are reviewed by members of the COGE EOP. Selected educators are featured monthly on the COGE website and social media channels.
