GEM-June Ana Abreu
Celebrating Geoscience Educator of the Month (GEM): Ana Abreu from Brazil
We are thrilled to introduce professor Ana Abreu who seamlessly bridges the gap between industrial practice and academic excellence at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. With a background in Geology and Civil Engineering, her work transforms how students approach engineering geology, slope monitoring, and water security.
Before entering academia in 2016, she spent nearly a decade in the private sector, contributing to critical infrastructure like highways, landfills, and hydroelectric power plants. Today, Ana brings that invaluable fieldwork directly into the classroom, inspiring the next generation of geoscientists to build a safer, more sustainable world.
When she is not guiding students or serving on the board of the Brazilian Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (ABGE), Ana enjoys hiking, diving into books, and catching a good movie
