What does Latin America and the Caribbean need to participate fully in IGC 2028?
The 38th International Geological Congress (IGC 2028) will take place in Calgary, Canada, from 12–20 August 2028. This survey, led by the IUGS Commission on Geoscience Education (COGE) through its Education, Outreach and Policy (EOP) work, aims to hear directly from the geoscience community in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) about the conditions needed to participate more fully in the Congress.
Why this survey matters
We invite researchers educators, students, professionals, and institutions across the LAC region to share their views on:
- Access to funding and scholarships.
- Barriers to international participation.
- Scientific themes of interest for IGC 2028.
- Opportunities for students and early-career professionals.
- Strategies to strengthen regional representation.
Your input will help COGE prepare a technical summary of regional needs and priorities. The results will be shared with the organising Committee of the IGC 2028 to support future participation planning.
Who should respond?
This survey is intended for geoscientists, educators, students, professional associations, and institutions based in or working with Latin America and the Caribbean.
What happens next?
COGE will review the responses and identify the main needs, barriers, and opportunities expressed by the ALAC community. A summary report will be prepared and shared with relevant stakeholders to support future planning and regional engagement around IGC 2028.
