Sandra Villacorta appointed IUGS COGE Chair

The IUGS Commission on Geoscience Education (COGE) Council has elected Dr Sandra Villacorta as Chair, following the transition in leadership after the passing of former Chair Chris King.

Dr Villacorta thanked COGE members for their confidence and acknowledged the support of Acting Chair Young-Shin Park in guiding the Commission through this transition period.

Dr Villacorta is a geoscientist and international STEM education leader with experience spanning geohazards, environmental risk, geoscience data, and science communication. She has contributed to geoscience education initiatives, capacity building, and international collaborations across academia, government and professional organisations.

Based in Australia, Dr Villacorta brings experience from research and applied geoscience environments, including collaborations with international geoscience organisations. As Chair, she will continue advancing COGE’s mission to strengthen geoscience education globally.
