Dr. Reinhardt, actions as the Science Centre Coordinator at the University of kwazuluĀ  (UKZN), stands out for her creativity, hands-on innovation, and commitment to accessible geoscience education across the Global South.
From designing South Africa’s only interactive tsunami model to creating a Periodic Table display featuring real elements and their host rocks, her work transforms complex geoscience concepts into memorable learning experiences. She has also developed tactile geological models to support visually impaired learners, promoting inclusion through thoughtful design.āœ
Each year, her science shows and workshops, including her well-known volcano show, reach more than 13,500 learners and community members. A two-time SciFest Africa award winner in the category ā€œBest workshop presentationā€, she also trains science centres across South Africa and develops low-cost educational resources, such as fossil kits translated into isiZulu for rural schools. Her leadership extends globally through her roles in the IGEO.
We proudly celebrate Dr. Tanja Reinhardt, a true GEM whose passion and innovation are expanding access to geoscience education and inspiring a new generation of learners.šŸ¤©šŸ“šŸ¤
