Early Career Geoscience Education Grant

Overview

The COGE Early Career (EC) Geoscience Education Grant supports early-career geoscientists and geoscience educators to participate in international conferences and events that advance geoscience education, outreach, science communication, and capacity building.

The grant gives priority to emerging professionals from under-represented regions and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and recognises that early-career pathways are diverse — eligibility is based on career stage and professional trajectory, not academic status or age alone.

Who Can Apply

Early-career geoscientists and geoscience educators, including:

    • Undergraduate and postgraduate students (including MSc and PhD candidates)
    • Recent graduates and postdoctoral researchers
    • Early-career educators, outreach professionals, and science communicators
    • Early-career professionals at geological surveys, government agencies, NGOs, or other institutions with a geoscience education or outreach component

To apply, you must

    • Have an accepted contribution (presentation, poster, workshop, panel, etc.) at an eligible event

    • Show a clear connection between your work and geoscience education, outreach, or capacity building

    • Not reside in the country where the event takes place

    • Not have received a COGE travel grant in the previous cycle

What the Grant Provides

    • Partial financial support (70% of eligible costs), up to USD 3,000 per recipient

    • Covers economy airfare, registration fees, accommodation, and transport during the conference

    • Reimbursement basis — no cash advances

    • Up to 2grants awarded annually

    • At least 50% of grants go to applicants from LMIC countries, with balanced representation across IUGS regions
