Event recap: COGE-GEFO Inaugural Workshop was successful

As part of our Earth Month highlights, we are pleased to celebrate the success of the COGE–GEFO inaugural workshop, held in Accra, Ghana, in February. The event brought together 40 participants, including global leaders, educators, and students, fostering meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange.

Key highlights of the workshop included:

  • Innovative teaching approaches designed to inspire the next generation of geoscientists.
  • Field-based learning experiences at Shai Hills Resource Reserve, transforming geological features into real-world classroom lessons.
  • International perspectives shared by participants from India, Korea, Egypt, and Burkina Faso, showcasing practical strategies to address environmental and educational challenges.

The workshop underscored the urgent need to strengthen geoscience teaching at school level and to further integrate geoscience into teacher training programmes. This inaugural event marks the beginning of a series of workshops to be organised by COGE, aimed at empowering educators and transforming classrooms into hubs for climate awareness and action.
