History of COGE
The Commission on Geoscience Education (COGE) is a global scientific committee, established in 2004 and working under the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The primary objective is to assist countries worldwide in expanding and improving their Earth science education programs.
COGE has regular and associate members, from 22 countries, and 10 field officers (GEFO Programme) working together with a shared vision.
COGE sub-commissions and committees assist and reinforce the work of the commission.
One of the key goals of COGE is to provide support for geoscience education initiatives worldwide. COGE welcomes support towards making a positive impact on society through education.

- Develop and disseminate information and guidelines for good practice in Geosciences Education.
- To support The Geoscience Education Field Officer Program
- Under the sponsorship of the IUGS, establish and manage the “Chris King Prize” for outstanding geoscience educators worldwide.
- Report the work performed and the plans and budget for the following year annually to the IUGS
