Introducing our New International Relations Team Leader, Miguel Cano
COGE is excited to announce a new leader for our International Relations Committee, Miguel Cano!
Miguel is currently an Earth Science teacher in the Senior High School at St. Stephen’s High School in Manila. He is a licensed geologist with interest in Holocene Sea-level Change but has worked mainly as an Earth Science educator in the National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED) at the University of the Philippines, where he was involved in teacher-training, curriculum development, and outreach. He later taught geology and natural sciences at Bicol University and Partido State University. When he moved to back Manila, he started teaching again at St. Stephen’s High School, where he was the head of the Science Department previously.
Miguel is one of the founding council members of International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO) and was involved in planning and organizing the first International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) in Korea in 2007. He chaired the 2nd IESO in 2008 and currently organizes the Selection process for the Philippines ‘ participation in IESO and has previously trained and mentored the Philippine Team.
