Geoscience Educator of the Month – José Macharé Ordoñez (Peru)

Let’s welcome our first GEM (Geoscience Educator of the Month), Dr. José Macharé Ordoñez from Peru!

Dr. Macharé has dedicated much of his career to educate and research in areas such as structural geology, Quaternary geology, neotectonics, geological oceanography, and paleoclimatology, with a strong focus on disaster risk management and climate change. He has taught at prestigious institutions, including Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI), where he is currently a Full-time Professor.

Dr. Macharé holds a PhD in Geosciences from the University of Paris XI and a degree in Geological Engineering from UNI. Dr. Macharé’s outstanding contributions have earned him the recognition of the National Academy of Sciences, the Order of National Engineering (Peru), and the Academic Palms (France).

He is also been a member of the International Geoscience Education Organisation (IGEO). Let’s celebrate his inspiring work in geoscience education!
