Chris King Award Winner Lacreu Interview: Part 2
Conversations with Dr. Lacreu Part 2 (en EspaƱol): What is the greatest difficulty in geoscience communication?
In this part of the interview, inagural Chris King Medal award winner Dr. Hector Lacreu highlights that successful science communication includes careful selection of topics, language, and syntax that resonates with the public. He notes that scientists must be vigilant to provide information that has societal relevance, be careful not to add uneccessary complexities, and be brief to keep an audience’s attention.
Dr. Lacreu profoundly suggests that geoscientists should always “seek a connection with the interest of the recipient” of information, whether it is cultural, historical, or practical. Examples include understanding geologic time, global change, and natural phenomena like eclipses and the duration of seasons!
